by Reno Gold on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

NASCAR Sprint Challenge Odds: The best drivers in NASCAR will converge on Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend (May 22) for the NASCAR Sprint Challenge, the racing circuits version of an All-Star event. While there are no points on the line, the winning driver will walk off with a cool $1-million. Anytime there is that much dough on the line, oddsmakers will be lining the drivers and fans will be laying out bets.

NASCAR Sprint All-Star Challenge Odds Bodog.com oddsmakers list Kyle Bush  as a 4-to-1 favorite for today's Sprint Challenge All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Every weekend of the Sprint Cup season is virtually an all-star race. So what sets the NASCAR Sprint Challenge apart from the other races? Only recent winners, drivers and owners, qualify. So here is who you will see Saturday night. Any driver who won in the past year or the current season or owner of a team that entered a winning car. Also any driver to finish in the top two of the Sprint Showdown qualifying race, a 40 lap race in two 20 lap segments for drivers not qualified for the main event. The showdown is run prior to the challenge. Also former Sprint Cup and Sprint All-Star champions are eligible for the race.

The winner of the NASCAR Sprint Challenge receives $1,000,000 with each segment winner receiving a bonus prize.

The current racing format consists of a 50-lap segment with a mandatory 4-tire green flag pit stop on lap 25, two 20-lap segments, a 10-minute break, and a 10-lap shootout to determine the winner. What makes the Sprint Challenge special is the race is as much about challenging the teams as the drivers.

The past six years a different driver has won the race. In 2009 Tony Stewart, of Stewart-Haas Racing won and ran to the bank with $1,033,656 in prize and bonuses. The previous five winners were Kasey Kahne, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth. Jeff Gordon has won the most of any current driver with three wins while Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson each have won twice.
