2009 Indy 500 Betting Odds: The 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500 will take place this Sunday, May 24th at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. the 2009 Indy 500 betting odds at online bookmaker Bodog.com have Brazilian driver Tony Kanaan listed at 8 to 1 odds to win his first race at the Brickyard.
Tony Kanaan comes into Sunday's race as the eader in the IRL points standings, but he is a mere point ahead of Australian racer Ryan Briscoe. Kanaan, who has 13 career wins, has yet to win a race this season and has led just seven laps in three IRL races. He finished third in the circuit's last race, the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway.
The 34 year old is hoping for a better finish at Indy this year than the one he experienced last May. Kanaan lead 12 laps in last season's run, but a crash relegated him to a 29th place finish. His best conclusion at the track came in 2004 when he finished second.
Despite his inability to enter the pantheon of Indy champions, Kanaan does not consider Indy a hard luck place for him.
"I've led [the race] every time I've been here, something nobody else has [done], and I haven't started worse than sixth," Kanaan said. "You can't say this place is bad luck for me. I just haven't nailed it yet. It's hard to win a race and even harder to pick the race that you want to win."
Kanaan's Andretti Green 7-11 Honda will start Sunday's race from the sixth position on the second row. The 2004 IRL champ felt his car was a little slow in qualifying, but he believes it has what it takes to get the job done.
"We still don't have the fastest car, but I have a very consistent car. And I think consistency is going to play a bigger role than speed in this race," Kanaan said.
