Jimmie Johnson enters this weekend's race sitting at sixth place in the Sprint Cup standings with a total of 1849 points 
(214 behind points leader Kevin Harvick). Johnson has recorded eight top 10 finishes this season, but he has not won a race since taking first at the Food City 500 back on March 21st. The California native broke up a rough stretch last week with a solid fifth place result at Pocono as his average finish during the month of May was a lackluster 22.4.
Michigan has not exactly been Johnson's best track, which makes him a curious favorite for Sunday's race. In 16 career turns at the Brooklyn facility, Johnson has no wins and six top 10 finishes while his average finish there is a pedestrain 16th. Last year he took 22nd and 33rd in the Sprint Cup's two visits to the speedway.
Following Johnson on the odds leaderboard is Joe Gibbs driver Kyle Busch. Busch, who is currently second in the points standings and just 19 behind Harvick, has been red hot of late, recording eight top 10 finishes in his last nine races, including wins at The Heath Calhoun 400 on May 1st and the Autism Speaks 400 on May 16th. He took second at last week's Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 in Pennsylvania.
Busch has not exactly fared well at Michigan either, though, with his average finish being 17.4 in 10 career races there. He has never won at the track, but figures to be in contention based upon the way he has raced of late.
Rounding out the top five favorites are Jeff Gordon (+600), Denny Hamlin (+700), and Kurt Busch (+1050). The three drivers have a combined 60 races and four wins (Gordon 2, Busch 2) at Michigan International Speedway.
