Matt Kenseth won last years Auto Club 500 Nextel Series race on the D-shaped oval at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., but Kasey Kahne last won on the track in the fall race and is the favorite at favorite at 5 to 1 odds (Bet $10.00 to win $50.00) at Bodog.com to take the checkered flag on Sunday. Odds for last weeks Daytona 500 winner Kevin Harvick has been set at 11/1 while last years winner Matt Kenseth is set at 10/1. If any driver from the field wins it will pay 33/1.
Other favorites to win are Jimmy Johnson at 8 to 1 (Bet $10.00 to win $80.00) and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Burton and Greg Biffle all at 10/1. The field of 43 cars will be set today when qualifying is completed.
Joe Nemechek, from the Ginn Racing Team, whom is not considered a favorite but expected to be part of the field, had the highest practice speed in today’s session of 185.215 mph. Clint Boyer from Hendrick Motor sports posted the second highest speed at 184.781 mph.
Qualifying for the race got underway at 6 p.m. EST today and is currently underway. A total of 54 teams are vying for 43 positions. Kenseth is the favorite to win Saturdays Stater Brothers 300 Bush series race at 5/1 odds when the green flag drops at 7 p.m. EST. Kenseth is expected to be challenged by Harvick and Tony Stewart at 6/1, Biffle at 15/2 and Carl Edwards at 7/1. If any racer from the field wins the Bush race it will pay 15/1.
In tonight’s Craftsman Truck Series, San Bernardino County 200, Carl Edwards is favored at 4/1 odds to take the checkered flag. Jack Sprague and Mark Martin are installed at 5/1 odds to challenge. Travis Kvapil is set at 7/1 and Todd Bodine at 8/1. If any driver from the field wins it will pay at 22/1 odds.
