Saturday, when the smoke cleared and the band stopped playing following the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. Tony Stewart found himself on the outside looking in. The defending Nextel Cup champion finished 11th in the standings and has no shot at raising the Cup when NASCAR's playoffs start Sunday at the New Hampshire International Speedway. The next ten races will determine this year's champion, as the top 10 drivers qualified to claim the title. As the chase begins, the points earned in the first 26 races are erased, and all drivers become seperated by just 5 points. This creates a level playing field and basically makes for a ten-race season. This weekend, the Sylvania 300 marks the start of the chase. Last year, Ryan Newman won this event and back in May it was Kyle Busch who took his machine to Victory Lane in New Hampshire. Newman isn't a Cup contender this year and most likely won't be a threat on Sunday. Kyle Busch sits in the 4th position and another victory here would be a huge boost to the start of the chase. Other drivers who are Cup eligible that have won in New Hampshire are Jimmie Johnson with 2, Jeff Gordon with 3 and Jeff Burton with 4 which is the most of any driver. All of these drivers should be considered serious contenders Sunday. Cup Contenders 1 Matt Kenseth 2 Jimmie Johnson -5 3 Kevin Harvick -10 4 Kyle Busch -15 5 Denny Hamlin -20 6 Dale Earnhardt Jr. -25 7 Mark Martin -30 8 Jeff Burton -35 9 Jeff Gordon -40 10 Kasey Kahne -45 With no margin for error the tension will mount and the fast and furious action becomes unprecedented. Don't miss this stellar happening and let BetUS.com be your driver in this year's chase. |
