Juergen Klinsmann will take over Bayern Munich on July 1st of this year. Klinsmann turned down the job of U.S. soccer team coach a year ago and now will have the high profile Bayern job. "I had other options but this was by far the best opportunity I got," said Klinsmann, "It's a huge honor, and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to coach Bayern. It's the No. 1 club in the country. It's a privilege. I knew that at some point I would return to coaching. Bayern is one of the six, eight top teams in the world. That's what makes it fun."
Klinsmann is a national hero and will be well received in Germany. He led Germany to a third-place finish in the 2006 World Cup then quit coaching. He lives in the Los Angeles, California area but is expected to move to Germany with is wife and son. "Our 10-year-old son Jonathan was born here and I have close family ties to Germany," said Klinsmann, “Bayern are one of the top clubs in the whole world and whenever you think of the Bundesliga, Bayern is the first team which comes to your mind. I discussed moving back to Germany with my wife, and she spontaneously agreed.”

Klinsmann played for Bayern from 1995-97. He is expected to have a coaching staff that will include Americans. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that the team got "absolutely the coach we wanted." General manager Uli Hoeness said Klinsmann was an easy choice. "He is a maverick. We wanted a man who has strong opinions, who looks for new ways and who can approach young people," Hoeness said. "We are proud and curious, and we are pleased he chose us, because he had other offer."
Klinsmann won a Bundesliga title and the UEFA Cup while as a player for Bayern. He also played for Stuttgart, Inter Milan, Tottenham and Monaco, and scored 47 goals in 108 games for Germany.
