Ghana and Guinea Move into African Cup QuarterfinalsHost country Ghana is into the quarterfinals of the Soccer Betting African Cup of Nations after beating Morocco 2-0 on Monday.  They join Guinea and Ivory Coast in the quarterfinals. Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari led the way for Ghana in the win over Morocco. Ghana goes into the last eight after getting three wins while Guinea advanced with four points. Morocco was third with three points and Namibia last with one. "I am doing my best for the team to get the three points," Essien said. "I think we are improving. If we continue we could win the (African) Cup. We are ready to meet any team." Ghana finished at the top of Group A with nine points and next faces either Ivory Coast, Mali or Nigeria. "I want to say thanks so much to the players," Ghana coach Claude Le Roy said. "When they really decided to play it was the perfect application."

In Sekondi, Youla scored first for Guinea on a feed from Mamadou Dioulde Bah.  Brian Brendell got the tying goal for Namibia in the 81st minute and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. "We came so close to making a big surprise," said Namibia coach Arie Schans, "I think there certainly is hope in this young team." The draw was enough for Guinea to advance from Group A.

"It was the best game we have played so far," Guinea coach Robert Nouzaret said. "I think the goal we conceded was an individual mistake." Guinea played without Pascal Feindouno, who was serving a two-match suspension.

In the other action, Group B has seen Ivory Coast advance while Mali is in excellent position to be the other team from Group B that advances.

Group C is wide open although Egypt is in pretty good shape.  They will advance unless they lose to Zambia by at least three goals and Cameroon beats Sudan.  Cameroon is also in good shape.  They will advance with a win over Sudan or if they get a draw and Zambia loses to Egypt.  Zambia can only qualify by beating Egypt by at least three goals or if they win and Cameroon loses or they draw and Cameroon loses. Sudan can only qualify if they beat Cameroon by at least four goals and Egypt defeats Zambia.

Group D has Tunisia and Angola as the two teams with the best chance to advance.  Senegal and South Africa have outside chances but it is unlikely either will advance.  Quarterfinal action gets underway on February 3rd and February 4th.  The Semifinals are February 7th with the Final scheduled for February 10th.
