The United States remained unbeaten in their last 10 games against Mexico but blew two leads and had to settle for a 2-2 tie in Wednesday’s friendly at Houston, Texas. Jozy Altidore made his first start for the United States and scored a goal.  Oguchi Onyewu also had goal for the U.S. team.

The United State is now 8-0-2 in their last 10 games against Mexico.

Onyewu scored his third international goal in the 30th minute to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead but Magallon's first goal for Mexico tied it just a few minutes later. Altidore scored in the 40th minute to give the U.S. a 2-1 lead but Magallon tied it in the 47th minute.  There were 70,103 fans making a lot of noise in Houston but most of them were cheering for Mexico.  It was Mexico that controlled the match and outshot the U.S. 13-3.  The United States was called for 19 fouls and Mexico was called for 13. U.S. coach Bob Bradley was not pleased with the speed of his team. "Against their pressure, our ability to play faster, connect faster, that's certainly something, an area we want to improve," Bradley said. "I see a lot of things we must improve. Tonight, the main thing for me is the ability to play faster."

This was the 54th meeting all-time between the U.S. and Mexico.  It is Mexico that leads the series 29-14-11, but the U.S. has won nine of the last thirteen matches overall. "The teams played this 'friendly' with the intensity of a qualifier," Mexico coach Hugo Sanchez said.

The first goal for the U.S. was set up by Landon Donovan who took a pass from Onyewu and then fed it back to him for a shot that went past goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. Mexico tied the game as Pavel Pardo fed Magallon who scored his first goal in 20 career international matches.

"I'm happy for him because, besides being a defender, he also likes to score," Sanchez said about Magallon. The U.S. took the lead when Altidore, a star from the MSL, scored.

Mexico put most of the pressure on and Carlos Vela missed wide early in the second half.  They tied the game when Magallon scored his second of the game.  U.S. goalkeeper Moor was playing in just his fourth international match. "His positioning is not great, but he it was more just the reaction," Bradley said. "You never want to give up those in set pieces. That ability to put yourself in the right spot and react faster is what happens at this level." Mexico dominated the rest of the play but never got another good scoring chance and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
