FIFA World Cup 2010 Odds – Greece Preview: In international soccer competition, Greece has been inconsistent at best showing brilliance, UEFA Euro 2004, but more often disappointing – failing to qualify for 2006 World Cup Germany – and exiting early from EURO 2008. However, Greece, under the direction of coach Otto Rehhagel has qualified for World Cup finals for only the second time and first since 1994.

FIFA World Cup 2010 Odds: Greece PreviewGreece is listed on the Sportsbook.com 2010 World Cup South Africa betting board at +20000 (200/1) odds to win the tournament.

South Africa 2010 will be coach Rehhagel’s first FIFA World Cup finals, where he is set to be the oldest strategist on show. After a glittering career in his homeland, the German boss has earned worldwide recognition for his achievements with the Greek national team since taking over in 2001.

With Greece having only reached one FIFA World Cup and one European Championship prior to his arrival, within three years of taking the post Rehhagel had guided the Greeks to EURO glory, before going on to clinch qualification for both EURO 2008 and South Africa 2010.

Greece was seeded in Pot A for the European zone group stage draw for 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying. They were drawn into Group 2 with Israel, Switzerland, Moldova, Latvia and Luxembourg. Greece's group stage campaign began and ended with matches against Luxembourg.

While earning only three clean sheets in ten qualifying games, Greece relied heavily upon the scoring prowess of Theofanis Gekas, who led all Europeans in scoring with 10 goals. Two losses to Switzerland placed the Greeks one point behind the Swiss group winners, leaving Greece's 2010 World Cup hopes to be decided in a play-off with Group 6 runner-up Ukraine. A 0-0 tie in Athens preceded a 0-1 second-leg Greek triumph in Donetsk to secure a spot in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Greece will play a round robin schedule in Group B where they find two familiar opponents from its lone World Cup appearance in 1994. Argentina and Nigeria were yet again drawn into group stage play alongside Greece. Also participating in the group is South Korea (Korea Republic) the team scheduled to be the Greeks first opponent on June 12 at Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.
