Portugal beat Turkey 2-0 after goals from Pepe (61) and Raul Meirles (90) left the Turkish side high and dry. Pepe had a goal taken away in the 17th minute after a header that saw the back of the net was called offside. Cristiano Ronaldo was silent most of the game until a 35-yard penalty kick was tipped by the Turkish goalie onto the post. Most of the Turkish focus was covering Ronaldo like a fat kid protecting his candy. The score could have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for the three goal posts hit. The Portuguese had 16 shots on goal but only dominated 48% of possession. The combination of Deco and Joao Moutinho has proven to be great. Deco is playing his 54th cap for Portugal and 21 year old Mountinho is making his 15th appearance, he is the future of Portuguese footy. The Portuguese side can advance into the quarter finals with a win over the Czechs. 'Our idea is to play to win and go through,' said Portugal playmaker Deco.

The Czech Republic beat Switzerland 1-0 after a 70th minute goal from Vaclav Sverkos from the onion bag. Even without Karel Poborsky and Pavel Nedved along with the loss through injury of captain Tomas Rosicky the Czech side were less than convincing. They had 12 shots on net and held 53% time of possession. Goalie Petr Cech made some great saves to keep his team ahead. It is in midfield that the Czechs will have to make a big improvement if they are to compete with the lively creative partnership of Portugals Deco and Joao Moutinho. Goalkeeper Petr Cech could prove to be Portugal's biggest obstacle although the Czech back four can also form a solid barrier. Most notable was lack of passes to the towering Czech forward Jan Koller who boasts a record of 54 goals in 87 internationals. “We didn't manage to get the ball to Koller and because of that we pretty much kept him out of the game,' Coach Brueckner told reporters, before hinting he may shuffle things around a bit. 'A winning line-up can change.' He may put lone goal scorer Vaclav Sverkos or Milan Baros alongside Koller.
