Turkey stuns Czech Republic to Advance in Euro 2008Turkey advanced to the Soccer Betting Euro 2008 quarterfinals with a great comeback against the Czech Republic on Sunday. Nihat Kahveci scored two goals late in the match as Turkey rallied for a 3-2 win. The game was headed for a shootout but Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech blundered and let a simple cross get away and Kahveci scored moments later. "At that moment, I just thought of shooting to where I saw," Kahveci said. "It went well and it got in, thank God."

The Czech Republic had a 2-0 lead after goals by Jan Koller in the 34th minute and Jaroslav Plasil in the 62nd minute. Arda Turan scored for Turkey in the 75th minute and then Kahveci got two late goals. Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel was red-carded in injury time and will miss the quarterfinal match against Croatia on Friday. "The Turkish national team is in the top eight. Hopefully it will get only better from now on," Turkey coach Fatih Terim said. Turkey did not play well for most of the match but turned it around in the last 15 minutes.  The Czechs really gave the game away in the last few minutes. “The third goal was nothing but a collapse. I can't explain that," Czech Republic coach Karel Bruckner said.

The other match in Group A had Switzerland getting a 2-0 win against Portugal.  It was a nice going away gift for the host country but the game meant nothing. Portugal had already clinched their spot in the quarterfinals.  They will play the runner-up in Group B on Thursday. Hakan Yakin scored twice for the Swiss in the 2-0 shutout.  He scored in the 71st minute and in the 83rd minute. The second goal was a penalty shot after Fernando Meira fouled Tranquillo Barnetta. Portugal rested eight starters in the match including Cristiano Ronaldo and Deco. Portugal could have had the first goal in the match but was ruled offside.  Replays showed the call was not correct and that Portugal should have scored. Portugal will play Austria, Germany or Poland in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
