Every game matters now, as UEFA Euro 2008 has moved into elimination mode. Friday's Turkey vs Croatia quarterfinal pits Croatia—the winners of Group B—against Group A runner-up Turkey. The match begins at 2:45 p.m. ET at Ernst Happel Stadion. BetOnline.com has Turkey +400 odds, Croatia –155 odds, Draw +240 odds with the over 2.5 goals +120 and under 2.5 goals –170 odds.
Croatia made short work of its group, playing excellent soccer on its way to three wins and a perfect round. Croatia was particularly impressive in a 2-1 victory over a talented German team. The team is making the most out of an overall team contribution; though none of its players are as well-renowned as that of a Spain or Netherlands, positive chemistry and good teamwork have paid off. The team has also made an impression defensively, allowing just one goal in the tournament so far. Unfortunately for Croatia, striker Igor Budan will miss the rest of Euro 2008 with a knee injury.
Turkey played in what will arguably be the most fantastic and memorable game of the tournament, rallying from a 2-0 deficit with about 15 minutes left to squeak out a 3-2 victory over the Czech Republic. The game left the Czech's stunned and the Turks brimming with confidence, giving them lots of momentum heading into this match-up. Nihat Kahveci was the difference maker, scoring two goals in that game. Turkey might not want to be baited into another wide open contest, however, as their defense is suspect.
Turkey is definitely the underdog in this match, which promises to be quite scrappy. Croatia is good at slowing down the game, which is a major key to their success. It will be a tightly contested match, but Croatia's air-tight defending will make the difference. Turkey's magical ride ends Friday.
