Turkey has fought tooth and nail to get to the semifinal round of the European Championships, but they will have the odds stacked against them when they meet heavily-favored Germany St. Jakob Park Wednesday afternoon in the Turkey vs Germany UEFA Euro 2008 Semifinals. BetOnline.com has Germany –255, Turkey +600, Draw +300 with the over 2.5 goals –115 and the under 2.5 goals –125 odds. The Turks were seconds away from being eliminated before Semih Senturk shocked Croatia with a last-gasp equalizer in extra time. Turkey then took advantage of some shoddy penalty-taking to beat the Croats 3-1 in penalties to reach this stage. However, the Turks' feisty style of play will hurt them for this match, as Emre Asik, Tuncay Sanli and Arda Turan all received their second yellow cards of the competition, which means they will miss out on the Germans. Also, Nihat Kahveci will miss this match with a groin injury, which robs Turkey of their best player who could test the shaky German defense. The Germans survived a thrilling 3-2 match with Portugal, as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 26 minutes thanks to Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose. Michael Ballack added insurance with a header after 62 minutes for the Germans, who still do not look very confident at the back. Schweinsteiger was a man possessed, returning to the lineup after missing Germany's final group match with Austria due to a red card, and he did not disappoint as he racked up a goal and two assists. The Germans are massive -255 favorites in this contest, and while Turkey will never say die, they have far too many absences in their lineup to beat the Germans. Losing Sanli, Turan and Kahveci desperately hampers their chances of troubling the German defense, while Asik is very important to their defense. Turkey will be stubborn, but take the Germans to continue their quest for a fourth European championship with a victory on Wednesday.
