England coach Steve McClaren says Frank Lampard is "50-50" to play in next week's Euro 2008 qualifying match against Russia. SBG Global has England at +650 betting odds to win the EURO 2008.
Frank Lampard has been ruled out of Saturday's encounter with Israel because of a thigh muscle tear.
He has returned to his club, Chelsea, for treatment – and Steve McClaren said: "Frank came and joined us, we looked at the scans and have liaised with Chelsea. He may be 50-50 for next week – and Chelsea are giving him every chance of being available for us." He added: "He's gone back there for rehab – the injury is not as serious as we first thought, although hopefully we'll assess him on Saturday." Steven Gerrard was among four high-profile absentees from training as the debate over his availability for England's crucial Euro 2008 double-header with Israel and Russia continues.
The Liverpool captain has played only once since breaking a toe against Toulouse three weeks ago and Reds boss Rafael Benitez has expressed doubt as to whether Gerrard will be fit for both games, when England will require a minimum of four points to retain any realistic hope of reaching the European Championship finals in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
