Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new four year deal with the Blues. City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has been very impressed with the Dane’s rookie season that he has now become one of the first names on the team sheet. Manchester City is currently trading at 14 to 1 odds to win the Carling Cup 2007/2008.The son of Man United great Peter, the 20-year-old has spent time on loan at Bury, Falkirk and Darlington in the past. Speaking earlier today: “I am delighted to have signed this deal and it will help me concentrate totally on my football now this issue has been put to bed. Everything has gone very well this season, so to get this sorted out as well is very pleasing.” Eriksson added how satisfied he is to have landed the young prospect for at least another four years: Kasper has been very impressive since I came to City, and I am delighted he has commited his future to the club.” Schmeichel’s goal had only been penetrated twice this season, until the blues shipped three goals at Fulham at the weekend. The match ended 3-3, but City will rue failing to hang onto a 3-2 lead in the closing stages. Eriksson has publicly expressed his concern at his side’s defending. “Six goals is great for the fans, but in my job it is disappointing. I would rather we win the match 1-0 than draw 3-3 but we always seek to play attractive football and as long as I continue to be in charge that will continue.” It is rumoured that Eriksson is to be provided with a 40 million GBP war chest when the transfer window reopens in January.
