 Former Dutch and AC Milan hero Marco Van Basten has been offered the Chelsea job according to reports in the UK. Bodog.com has all the currents odds for wagering on the English Premiership 2007/2008.
helsea owner Roman Abramovich is reported to have moved for the current Holland boss over the weekend and is now waiting for his answer.
Ex-Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello - a previous Chelsea target - let the cat out of the bag accidentally by saying that Chelsea technical director Frank Arnesen had recommended Van Basten to Abramovich.
“Arnesen wants Van Basten to take over and has already recommended Marco to Abramovich,” said Capello.
“Frank and Marco know each other well from their time in Dutch football,” he added.
Photographs of Van Basten sitting behind Abramovich at Old Trafford for last Sunday’s loss to Manchester United have been circulating the worldwide media.
But Van Basten merely insisted it was a pure coincidence and that he was a United guest.
The Dutch ace is believed to have spoken at length with Chelsea’s powerbrokers about an offer to take over from Avram Grant.
Israeli Grant became Chelsea coach only last week after Jose Mourinho’s shock departure.
It is reported that Van Basten has asked for a few days to decide on if he will take the job at such short notice. A source close to Van Basten close pal revealed: “Marco is faced with a huge dilemma. He has to think things over and see whether he could leave Holland.”
Van Basten´s Dutch side sit joint top of Group G with Romania in Euro 2008 qualifying.
