Germany defeated Brazil 2-0 on Sunday to win their second straight Women's World Cup. The Germans got goals by Birgit Prinz and Simone Laudehr. Brazil’s star player Marta had a chance to tie the score in the second half, but her penalty kick was stopped by German goalkeeper Nadine Angerer. "After the penalty save, I felt it was meant to be," Germany coach Silvia Neid said. "We worked hard for each other. It was a great team performance. It was important to work against Marta, and we did a good job in pushing her to the sidelines." Soccer Betting at SBG Global Germany was perfect in the World Cup outscoring the opposition 21-0. In the third-place game Sunday, the U.S. defeated Norway 4-1 behind two goals by Abby Wambach. Germany was the first team to go through a major senior tournament without giving up a goal. Germany's defense was superb and it was necessary since Brazil had the offense to score. Germany was finally able to break through with a goal in the 52nd minute as Sandra Smisek took possession in the box and centered to Prinz who did not get the shot off clean but it was enough to get by Brazil goalkeeper Andreia who didn’t get down in time. Brazil was awarded a penalty kick in the 62nd minute but Angerer guessed right and stopped Marta for the save of the tournament. Angerer later had another big save as she dived to save a free kick by substitute Rosana. Laudehr put the game away in the final few minutes for Germany when she headed home Renate Lingor's corner kick. In the third place game it was all Abby Wambach for the United States. She scored two more goals and the U.S. dominated Norway 4-1. Wambach had six goals in the tournament. Perhaps if head coach Greg Ryan had played Hope Solo in goal against Brazil it would have been the United States playing Germany instead of Brazil but no one will ever know. The U.S.Norway. It will be interesting to see if head coach Ryan is retained in the future or if another coach is chosen. What is obvious is that Ryan and goalkeeper Hope Solo will not be on the same team in the future. For the United States to win the upcoming Olympics it may be in their best interest to replace Ryan and move in another direction. His decision to replace Solo in goal may have cost the U.S. a World Cup title and the decision cannot be defended. - Receive up to 85% in Bonuses from SBG Global ! - $15,000 WEEKLY NFL Handicapping Contest Click here to visit SBG Global.
