Peter Taylor has been sacked as Crystal Palace manager after their poor start to the Coca-Cola Championship season. Palace are 150 to 1 odds with Bodog to win this year's FA Cup. Peter Taylor, former England Under 21 boss, took over at Selhurst Park following Iain Dowie's exit last summer. However, the Eagles surprisingly failed to mount an expected promotion challenge last season. Palace are currently lying in 19th place with 10 points from their opening 10 games. Many insiders believe that´s a harsh decision to dispense with Taylor’s services so early in the season.A statement currently on the club's official website, www.cpfc.co.uk, reads: "Crystal Palace Football Club announce that Peter Taylor's contract has been terminated with immediate effect." Crystal Palace were jeered off the pitch following Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Hull. In a twist of fate Taylor actually left Hull to join the Eagles. After the match Taylor was adamant that he would not be quitting. Despite his claims the 54-year-old confessed that he was probably in danger of the axe from chairman Simon Jordan: "I do appreciate that when managers do go, then they go at this time to give the new manager time to get to know the boys." Peter Taylor was always a popular figure at Selhurst Park. He played on the wing for Palace as a player in the 1970s. Taylor has also managed Southend, Gillingham, Leicester and Brighton. Taylor was also caretaker manager of the full England team for the 1-0 friendly defeat by Italy in 2000. Notably, Taylor was the first professional manager to hand David Beckham the captaincy of a team. Palace will now use the two-week international break to find a replacement for Taylor. Peter Taylor becomes the seventh manager to leave Selhurst Park whilst Jordan has been in charge. Ex-Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has been linked with the role in the past few weeks.
