Nuremberg Out of German CupThe defending Champs are out of the German Cup.  Nuremberg was eliminated by second-division Carl Zeiss Jena in the second round of the German Cup on Wednesday.  Nuremberg led twice in the game but was tied both times.  They lost the penalty shootout 5-4. 

Last season's German Cup runner-up Stuttgart advanced as they got a goal by Mario Gomez late in extra time against Paderborn.  Stuttgart had blown a two goal lead and needed the heroics from Gomez.  In other action, Luca Toni scored two goals in the second half as Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich beat Borussia Moenchengladbach by a score of 3-1.  Toni scored in the 47th minute and scored 10 minutes late for his second goal of the game. Marcel Ndjeng scored to cut the lead to 2-1 but Miroslav Klose put the game away with a goal in the 83rd minute.

Werder Bremen beat Duisburg 4-0 , getting goals from Tim Borowski, Hugo Almeida, Markus Rosenberg and John Mosquera. Borussia Dortmund defeated last year's semifinalist Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1, getting goals from Markus Brzenska and Mladen Petric. Hamburger SV beat second-division Freiburg 3-1 on goals by Piotr Trochowski, Ivica Olic, and Rafael van der Vaart.

The top team in the German Cup has been Bayern Munich as they have dominated play going 8-0-3.  Hamburg has played well going 7-2-2.  Werder Bremen and Karlsruher both have more than 20 points as well.  Werder is 6-2-3 while Karlsruher is 6-3-2.
