MLS Semifinals: Chicago at New England & Kansas City at Houston

The New England Revolution are now the favorite to win the MLS Cup with D.C. United and Chivas eliminated. New England took out New York 1-0 on Saturday and now will face Chicago in the Eastern Conference Championship on Thursday. The Revolution have been superb defensively, as they gave up no goals against New York. "It's been a team effort," Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis said. "We had been struggling giving away goals. We've really stopped that." The Revolution finished behind D.C. United in the East but they are now in the top position with United out of the playoffs. "We've set ourselves up by finishing second in the East," Reis said. "If the No. 1 seed falls, we're right there and it worked out that way this year."

New England has been unstoppable at home in the playoffs. They are now 8-0-4 in the playoffs all-time. "We're taking it one game at a time," Revs midfielder Wells Thompson said. "We're playing at home. Who can complain about that?" They will be facing a Chicago team that is unbeaten in their last 10 games including a win and a tie against top seeded D.C. United. It will be the fifth time in six seasons the Fire and Revolution have met in the MLS Cup Playoffs. New England has won three of the last four matches including last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they won in a penalty shootout.

In the Western Conference Championship it will be Houston taking on Kansas City. Houston will be the favorite in that game but the Wizards are playing extremely well right now having just dispatched of Chivas. "They're playing at home so they're probably excited about that," said Kansas City’s Jimmy Conrad. "We played them well during the season but it's just a one-off game. They're going to have their fans but we dealt with the Chivas fans tonight and that'll give us confidence." Houston was able to get by Dallas in the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinals. They won 4-1 at home and advanced 4-2 on aggregate goals. Houston will host Kansas City in the Western Conference Championship game on Saturday.
