The recent violence in Italy that led to the football fixtures in the country being suspended has made some United supporters fearful of traveling to Rome. United play to Roma on December 12 - and with memories of trouble trouble in the Stadio Olimpico last season still fresh – its not surprising to hear some supporters have reservations. A United spokesperson said: "For every Champions League game there is a period beforehand where people can cancel. We are not change our position on the Roma game unless we are advised to do so."
United normally allow fans to withdraw their applications up until two weeks before an away European match and will extend the period until 11 days – prior to their last match of the group stage. The club have said they will also keep in touch with Foreign Office about for advice on getting to Italy. Last season´s Champions League saw United accuse the Rome police of "serious over-reaction" after baton-wielding police waded into visiting fans. Eleven fans, some with knife wounds inflicted by Roma 'ultras', spent time in hospital.
