One of Birmingham´s senior players says the search for successor to Steve Bruce may prove to be a distraction during their current Premiership campaign.
Keeper Maik Taylor says the playing staff at the Barclays Premier League club have been unsettled.
Steve Bruce´s old club Birmingham are 80/1 to win FA Cup with Bodog. His new club Wigan are 100/1 to win the sam competition with Bodog.
Bruce will sign a four-year contract with Wigan after leaving St Andrews. The Geordie failed to get the required guarantees over his future from prospective new owner Carson Yeung. The future of Bruce's assistant Eric Black still far from certain and Taylor stated that the upheavals are affecting the team. "As much as you want to try to focus on the playing side, it is hard not to be aware of what is going on. It has been unsettling but we are pros, we have to get our heads down," said Taylor. "It is not ideal situation. If someone can come in, the quicker we can get down to the aim of staying in the Premier League. The quicker it is resolved, one way or the other, the better," he added. Taylor reckoned Bruce will be a tough act to follow as recognised by Wigan chairman Dave Whelan, who installed Bruce at the end of the 2000/1 season. Whelan switched his focus to Bruce as soon as former boss Paul Jewell refused to accept an approach to return to his old club after the recent sacking of Chris Hutchings. Whelan confirmed he will pay £3million compensation to the Blues and told reporters: "I'm delighted we've got him. I think he's a big loss for Birmingham and a big signing for Wigan Athletic. "He'll be a fantastic signing for Wigan Athletic. He's one of the best managers in the land, I'm delighted we've got him and he'll bring enthusiasm, knowledge and spirit to our team."
