Derby County have sacked their manager Billy Davies after a low key start to the season.
Club chairman Adam Pearson held a meeting with the Scot on Monday morning and then revealed in a statement they had decided to go their separate ways.
Davies leaves County flat bottom of the Premier League with just one win from their opening 14 games. But it should be remembered Davies was at the helm when they gained promotion from the Coca-Cola Championships via the play-offs last season.
Pearson reassured Davies over his position following his takeover of the club at the end of last month. However, it would seem Derby´s poor form and Davies´s comments at the weekend sealed his fate.
"I have met with Billy Davies and we have decided mutually, in the interests of both parties, that to go our separate ways is the best decision at this time," Pearson said in a statement.
"Billy Davies leaves Derby County with our best wishes and our genuine gratitude in achieving a magnificent promotion to the Premier League, where everyone connected with the club wanted to be.
"We wish Billy all the best for his future career and both parties will now move forward, which I am sure will lead to future success for Billy Davies and Derby County."
Davies took over at Pride Park in January last year from Preston. He guided Derby into the Championship play-offs for two years in a row.
After helping rubber stamp the Rams' status in the Championship he then saw the Midlanders miss out on an automatic promotion before beating West Brom in the play-off final at Wembley last summer.
Drby´s defeat to Chelsea at the weekend made it eight games without a win and four straight losses.
