D.C. United and Los Angeles Galaxy will meet Thursday on the pitch at RFK Stadium in a battle of MLS rivals. Anticipation is high on the game with rumors swirling that David Beckham might make his MLS debut. Beckham was active at practice on Wednesday in RFK Stadium. The game is expected to be a sellout with 45,000 tickets sold.
“Its looking up,” Beckham said after Wednesday’s practice. “I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully I’ll get out there playing soon. I think it's always frustrating when you're a sportsman and you can't do what you love doing," he said. "And it's very frustrating because it's an injury that I've had now for almost eight weeks. And it's getting better. It's improving every day. A lot of people and myself want it to be a bit quicker."
Other than what could be described as a token appearance of 16 minutes on July 21 in a friendly match at the Galaxy's home field against English club Chelsea, David Beckham, 32, has been kept on the sidelines since joining his new team in the United States.
The midfielder has not been fully fit since injuring his left ankle June 6 while playing for England in a European Championship qualifier. He aggravated it June 17 in his final game for Spanish club Real Madrid.
United are home favorites at -130 , and Los Angeles are rated at +300. A draw comes in at +230. Frank Yallop's squad played most recently against Toronto, emerging with a 0-0 draw. The Galaxy had been favored at -130 on the moneyline in that match.
D.C. United comes off a 3-0 result in their last outing against New England. The United were an underdog in that contest with a moneyline of 300 and the 3 goals sent OVER bettors home happy.
