2010 Australian Open: Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic takes to the court again this evening for a second round meeting with Swiss native Marco Chiudinelli. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7:00pm ET at the Rod Laver Arena. 2010 Australian Open Betting Odds at online bookmaker SPORTSBETTING.com have the Djokovic listed as a -2500 moneyline favorite.
Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round at the Australian Open for a fourth consecutive time by beating Spaniard
Daniel Gimeno-Traver in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 on Monday. Djokovic hit 69 percent of his first serves in the easy win and he also had 28 unforced errors compared to Gimeno-Traver's 47.
The 22 year old Djokovic, who is seeking his 17th career singles title, won his first and only Grand Slam at the 2008 Australian Open. The Belgrade native beat Roger Federer in the semi-finals and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final to capture the victory. Djokovic has not reached the finals of a Grand Slam since that win, but he has been to the quarterfinals twice (2009 Australian Open, 2009 Wimbledon) and the semi-finals three times (2008 French Open, 2008 U.S. Open, 2009 U.S. Open).
Basel, Switzerland native Marco Chiudinelli earned a meeting with Djokovic after getting past Marinko Matosevic 7-6, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. Chiudinelli advanced despite hitting fewer winners (42 to 51) and nearly as many unforced errors (48 to 49) as the Australian Matosevic. The match win was the second of the season for the 28 year old as he competed both at Auckland and Doha prior to arriving in Melbourne.
Chiudinelli, who has never won a singles title, is competing in just his fourth career Grand Slam and second Australian Open. He was eliminated in the first round of play at Melbourne back in 2007.
