2010 Australian Open Betting Odds: Chilean Fernando Gonzalez heads into a third round meeting with Russian Evgeny Korolev today at Show Court 2 in Melbourne. The players, both of which advanced with straight set second round victories, are set to get started at 8:30pm ET tonight. 2010 Australian Open Betting Odds at SPORTSBETTING.com have Gonzalez listed as a -450 moneyline favorite.
The 11th ranked Fernando Gonzalez dispatched Marsel Ilhan on Wednesday night with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 straight sets victory.
Gonzalez had a number of unforced errors in the match (38), but he compensated for his struggles by nailing 14 aces and 51 winners (19 for Ilhan). If the 29 year old Santiago native is able to oust Korolev this evening, it will mark his sixth fourth round appearance in his last nine majors.
Gonzalez, who is playing in his 10th Australian Open, made it to the final at Melbourne in 2007 (his best finish in a Grand Slam) where he lost to Roger Federer 6-7, 4-6, 4-6.
Twenty-one year old Russian Evgeny Korolev improved his match record to 4-2 this year with a second round win over 21st ranked Tomas Berdych on Wednesday. Korolev, who played at Sydney and Doha prior to the Australian Open, will be looking to advance to the third round for the first time at a major when he meets Gonzalez tonight.
Korolev, the 53rd ranked ATP player, is competing in his fourth Aussie Open; he was eliminated in the second round at Melbourne in 2008 and 2009.
