2010 Australian Open Betting Odds: Justine Henin's remarkable comeback continues tonight as she takes on Jie Zheng of China in the Australian Open semifinals. The match is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:30pm ET at Rod Laver Arena. 2010 Australian Open Betting Odds at SPORTSBETTING.com have Henin listed as a -162 moneyline favorite to win two sets to none.
Justine Henin had not played in a sanctioned match since May of 2008 until participating at Brisbane earlier this month.
Apparantly the lay off did little to effect her skills as she reached the finals there and has progressed to the semifinals in Melbourne. Henin assured her presence in this evening's match by besting Nadia Petrova 7-6, 7-5 on Wednesday. The 28 year old Belgium native won 81 percent of the time on her first serve and committed just 26 unforced errors compared to Petrova's 41.
Henin, who won the Australian Open in 2004, is vying for her eighth Grand Slam title. Her last victory at a major came in 2007 at the U.S. Open.
Jie Zheng reached the semifinals at a major for just the second time in her career (2008 Wimbledon) on Wednesday, beating Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-1, 6-3. The 26 year old Zheng dominated with her serve and heady play as she won 71 percent of time on her first toss and had just nine unforced errors.
Zheng, who won a doubles title at Melbourne in 2006, has just three singles titles to her credit. She has played Henin just one time in her career, falling 2-6, 4-6 to the former number one at Toronto in 2005.
