Both players committed 55 unforced errors in the grueling battle, but Tsonga hit 54 winners to Djokovic's 41 and he also served up 19 aces (Djokovic 2).
Tsonga, who played a five set match against Nicolas Almagro prior to his quarterfinals meeting with Djokovic, has won just two of his five Australian Open matches in straight sets.
