Second seed and 2006 champion Rafael Nadal had difficulty breaking the resistance of Russian qualifier, Mikhail Ledovskikh in the 2008 Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships, but broke in the ninth game and served out the set. From then on the Russian made a succession of errors and Nadal was able to claim the match 6-4 6-0. The 21-year-old Spaniard has a 9-2 career record at the $1.5 million tournament. Andy dominated his Dubai debut with a win over Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-2, 6-4.Andy sailed through the first set with seven aces, and converted two out of four break point opportunities for 6-2 in less than thirty minutes.  Roddick kept on rolling, this time beating Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-3 6-4.  

Next Andy will meet his arch nemesis Rafael Nadal. Andy has played Nadal three times before, trailing their head-to-head series 1-2. Andy won their first meeting on hard court at the US Open in 2004; Nadal then went on to win their next two meetings, on clay in the 2004 Davis Cup final and then last year in Indian Wells.
