Maria Sharapova beat Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the third round at Roland Garros for a seventh 
consecutive time. Sharapova, who is presently 13th in the WTP's women's singles rankings, had five aces, 19 winners, and just eight unforced errors in the easy route over Flipkens. The Russian also had an effective serve working as she landed 70 percent of her first attempts inbounds.
Sharapova, who has won the three other majors, is 3-6 in nine career meetings with Henin. The two last played at the 2008 Australian Open, where Sharapova scored a 6-4, 6-0 win in the quarterfinals. In their one meeting at Roland Garros, which occurred in 2005, Henin got a 6-4, 6-2 quarterfinals victory.
Justine Henin's quest for a fifth French Open title continued earlier this week when she dispatched Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3 in the second round. Henin overpowered Zakopalova with her serve as she won 76 percent of the time on her first attempt. The Belgium native was not completely on her game, though, committing 23 unforced errors and six double faults.
Henin, who has seven Grand Slam titles, has either won or reached the final in eight of the last 12 majors that she has participated in. The last time she was eliminated before the fourth round at a Grand Slam event was at Wimbledon in 2005.
