Federer got by Spaniard Albert Montanes while Ancic beat David Marrero of Spain to set up a third round meeting against Federer, at Roland Garros. He struck 13 aces and hit 28 winners for victory in two hours and 25 minutes. He saved all six break points he faced while converting six of 18 break chances. The Swiss improved to 28-7 on the season, 17-3 on clay, which includes one ATP title at Estoril. Federer has a versatile, all-court playing style and can hit all of the fundamental shots with a high degree of proficiency. He is an adept volleyer and an excellent baseliner who can dictate play with precise groundstrokes from both wings. He also can generate extreme top-spin with the forehand shot, allowing him to open up cross-court angles while still hitting the ball with pace. His serve is difficult to read because he tosses the ball in the same spot no matter where he intends to serve it and he turns his back to his opponents during his motion. Mario Ancic beat David Marrero 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2. He hit 17 aces throughout the match. Ancic is 1-4 against Federer, but he did beat Federer at Wimbledon in 2002 during the first round of play. Ancic also lost to Federer during the 2006 French Open quarter finals, he lost 4-6, 3-6, 4-6 which isn’t all that bad. His singles record is 18-8 with no titles this year. Mario Ancic plays an all-court game and is able to adapt his game to all surfaces, making him a difficult player to play regardless of the surface. Ancic also has a good serve and is capable of producing many aces in a match.
