French Open 2009: Online bookmakers and tennis odds experts at BetUS.com have listed the defending French Open champion, Rafael Nadal, as a -10000 money line favorite in their Rafael Nadal vs Robin Soderling French Open 2009 Betting Odds.
Rafael Nadal advanced to the fourth round of the French Open for the fifth consecutive year by beating Aussie Lleyton Hewitt yesterday morning. Nadal, now 44-4 in singles matches this year, made quick work of the world's former No.1 player, scoring a 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 straight sets victory.
Nadal had seven aces in the match and 17 unforced errors to Hewitt's 35. The Spaniard had 24 winners and a 76 percent first serve win percentage for the match.
Nadal was pleased with the result and indicated his game should only get better from here.
"Each day I play better, and I think, this is what it's all about," Nadal said. "I have to improve daily. I'm happy, really. My backhand is good. To start with, I played good shots. My drive is better. Always a win against Lleyton Hewitt is very good news. You must be playing well."
Facing Nadal in tomorrow's fourth round of action is Sweden's Robin Soderling. Soderling, who is playing in his sixth French Open, will be making his first ever appearance in the fourth round of a Grand Slam event.
Soderling made quick work of his first two opponents, besting Kevin Kim and Denis Istomin in straight sets, but he had a difficult go against Spaniard David Ferrer in the third round. Soderling finally prevailed, winning the match 6-7, 7-5, 6-2, 7-6, but he spent nearly four hours on the court.
Soderling, the world's 25th ranked player, had 61 unforced errors against Ferrer but made up for his occasional sloppiness by recording 64 winners.
Sunday's match will mark the fourth meeting between Nadal and Soderling; Nadal is a perfect 3-0 against the Swede.
