2010 Wimbledon Odds Women's Tournament: The WTA heads to Wimbledon, England this week for the third Grand Slam of the season. The highly anticipated tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 21st at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in the London Bourough of Merton. American Serena Williams, the WTA No. 1 ranked player, is the favorite to win the event in Sportsbook.com's 2010 Wimbledon Odds Women's Tournament at 2 to 1 odds.
Serena Williams will begin her quest for a 13th major title next week when she takes to the courts at Wimbledon. The 28
year old Michigan native has won four of the last seven women's Grand Slams, including the 2009 Wimbledon Championships where she beat her sister Venus 7-6 (3), 6-2 in the final match. In addition to last year's title, Williams also won at Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003; she finished runner up at the legendary tournament in 2004 and 2008.
Williams has not played since being ousted in the quarterfinals of the French Open last month by Australian Samantha Stosur.
Venus Williams, who turned 30 years old yesterday, is the second favorite to win Wimbledon at +350 moneyline odds. The elder Williams, who is the top seed in the women's draw, certainly makes a solid play considering she has won five Wimbledon Championships and finished runner up on three other occasions. Venus has also appeared in the championship match at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in eight of the last 10 years (exceptions: 2004, 2006).
Other top contenders include Justine Henin (+600), Maria Sharapova (+700), and Kim Clijsters (+1000). Henin, who came out of retirement earlier this year, is seeking her first Wimbledon championship; it is the only Grand Slam event that she has not won.
