Simon Greul plays the Challengers Circuit where he has nine career wins dating back to 2001. His last win was in 2008 in Germany on clay, he is more of a clay and hard court player. He recently beat M. Yani 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 to set up a second round match against Djokovic, this is the farthest Greul has made it in a Grand Slam event. He faced Djokovic once in 2005 during a qualifying event where Greul lost 6-3, 6-3.
Novak Djokovic lost the opening set in an 18-point tie-break and appeared in danger of falling into an even bigger hole as his opponent continued to impress – winning 81 per cent of his first serve points and 14 of his 16 net approaches through the first two sets. The Serbian twice served to stay in the second set, and then stepped up his game in the tie-break as he held Benneteau to just one point. Novak won 6-7(8), 7-6(1), 6-2, 6-4. “I was really happy physically with the way I was handling the things,” said Djokovic. “And this is a big advantage towards Grand Slams. When you play best of five, it's really important to be physically fit and convinced and confident in yourself so you can rely on your strength throughout the matches. I think I was quite fresh, even though we played over three hours.” Novak is 43-13 this year with two wins; he won on clay at the 2009 Serbian Open and on hard court at the Dubai Championships. He has five runner-up finishes this year.
