Lleyton Hewitt needed everything he had to get past Robin Haase. Haase, making his Wimbledon debut, matched Hewitt shot for shot and serve for serve.  Hewitt was out paced and out reached throughout the five set match, but he still managed to win 6-7(4-7), 6-3, 6-3, 6-7(1-7), 6-2. Hewitt extends his five set record to 4-1. "If I get into a fifth set I'm feeling pretty confident," he said. "Obviously I was disappointed that I lost the fourth set because I felt like I had the whole momentum in the fourth set. I just wasn't quite able to get those little chances or take those chances. Now Hewitt expects a different style of play from Albert Montanes. "On grass he doesn't have the biggest serve. He's not going to serve me off the court like this guy could have potentially done today. He's got a sneaky sort of slice serve out there and then a pretty good kick second serve, but you're always going to have a shot at it. "The toughest thing, he's a clay court specialist. He's going to have a good forehand and he moves well. But he's not going to feel that comfortable on grass, which is a good thing." Lleyton was knocked out in the fourth round at the 2007 Wimbledon, at the 2008 Australian Open he lost in the fourth round and at the 2008 French Open he was out in the third round.  His last six Major tournaments he’s failed to get past the fourth round. Hewitt is 16-9 this year with no Titles.

His opponent Albert Montanes has one Challengers win this year, he won at Monza Italy, for his first win in a year. Unfortunately his record at Wimbledon isn’t the greatest, in six appearances his best result was a second round knockout in 2004. Every other appearance has been a first round exit. Montanes has been a consistently good player during his career. He first entered the top-100 in 2001 and has been in the top-100 for all but 20 weeks since then. Before 2007, his career high ranking was #53 in March, 2002. But he eclipsed that in October, 2007, reaching a new high of #44. Montanes is 12-14 this year with no ATP Titles.

These two have met once in their careers, at the 2006 U.S. Open, in which Hewitt won 7-5 6-4 6-3.
