 Andy Murray was pushed to the limit in his first round match against Robert Kendrick, who seemed to be playing well above his ATP Tour ranking of No.76. Murray prevailed 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4 much to the delight of Henman Hill and all of Britain. Murray’s next test will be Latvian Ernests Gulbis, Thursday June 25. Similarly to Marat Safin, Gulbis' playing style is extremely tactical and aggressive, and relies more on making winners than drawing errors, which can sometimes lead to a very high unforced error count. Gulbis excels on all surfaces. Despite playing a style more attuned to fast surfaces, his strong showing at the French Open is attributed to his powerful and flat strokes which can play through clay. Andy Murray was not happy about dropping a set to Kendrick in round 1. "I was disappointed I lost the second set," admitted Murray. "In the whole match, I think he had two breakpoints on my serve. "When you're serving like that and not giving someone too many opportunities, it's easier to stay calm because you're the one that's always sort of creating the opportunities. "Once I managed [the breakthrough] in the third set I felt good. It wasn't an easy match. It was difficult. Staying calm was a huge part of winning. He came up with some huge serves when he was down. And sometimes that can get frustrating." Murray is 2-0 against Gulbis, he beat him at the 2008 St.Petersburgh Open 6-4, 6-2 and at the 2008 AEGON Championships 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. "I need to focus on the next match. I've got a very tough opponent. Gulbis has caused some upsets in the past and is a huge hitter of the ball.
