Lleyton Hewitt had to come back from losing his first two sets to win the next three as he defeated No. 23 seed Radek Stepanek 4-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. This was the sixth time in his career he fought back from a 0-2 dedicate. “I was able to start dictating play a little bit more and sort of put a bit more pressure on his forehand,” Hewitt said. “He was hitting his backhand extremely well. He was attacking both sides off it and returning well if I missed my first serve. My serve definitely picked up from then on in, though. I was struggling a little bit pushing off with my left leg on the serve. [It] got better as the match went on.” Hewitt’s’ thoughts on playing Roddick, “You know you're going to get aced out there. You know he's going to come up with big shots. You've got to weather the storm and take those small chances when you get the opportunity. That's what it comes down to playing these big matches at the end of these tournaments.”
Andy Roddick makes his fifth trip to the Quarters after beating No. 20 seed Tomas Berdych 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-3. “I was kind of in control of it the whole way,” said two-time Wimbledon finalist Roddick, who had been extended to four sets in his first three matches at The Championships. “I felt like I was getting looks more than he was. Overall it was a pretty good performance over a guy who is definitely an in-form player coming in.” Roddick’s thoughts on playing Hewitt, “I feel like we always had close matches, I just pulled a couple out. We had two great matches this year. I thought he played real well in Memphis and I was lucky to get through that one. We had a real good match in Queen's a couple weeks ago.” They’ve met twice on grass court and Roddick won both, Roddick hasn’t lost to Hewitt since 2005, but Hewitt has shown resurgence in form since recovering from a left hip injury. “Lleyton's not going to give you anything. A lot of guys you can get on top of, you can get on top of their game; you can look for holes in it. Lleyton doesn't really have a lot of holes. He's pretty solid off both sides. He volleys well. You're definitely not going to get on top of him mentally. He's as sound there as anybody out there.”
