2009 Wimbledon Results: Roger Federer advanced to the finals at Wimbledon for a seventh consecutive time today by taking out Germany's Tommy Haas in straight sets 7-6, 7-5, 6-3. Federer, who was listed as a -1400 moneyline favorite by Bodog.com in his match with Haas, has now reached the finals in 18 of the last 22 Grand Slams. The native of Basel, Switzerland will take on the winner of today's semifinal contest between Andy Murray of Great Britain and Andy Roddick of the United States.
Roger Federer, who beat Tommy Haas in the fourth round of the French Open this year, overcame 11 aces on the part of Haas by scoring 11 of his own. The 27 year old also had four fewer double faults than his 31 year old competitor and he had 49 winners to Haas' 28. Federer had just 15 unforced errors in the match and he won 89 percent of the time on his first serve opportunities.
Federer, although largely considered to be the greatest player of all-time by many, has a chance to finalize the argument in his favor this Sunday. Federer will be gunning for a record 15th career Grand Slam title when he takes Centre Court against either Murray or Roddick. He is currently tied with Pete Sampras at 14 after securing his first French Open crown last month (Sampras never won at Roland Garros).
Federer, who was listed as a 5 to 7 betting odds favorite at Bodog.com to win Wimbledon this year, has won five of the last six All England Lawn Tennis Championships. He will, no doubt, be listed as a 2009 Wimbledon Results favorite regardless of who he faces on Sunday.
Tommy Haas reached the semifinals at Wimbledon for the first time in his career by upsetting fourth ranked Serbian Novak Djokovic on Wednesday 7-5, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3. Haas' seminfinal appearance today marked just the fourth time he has advanced that far in 41 Grand Slam outings.
