Defending US Open champion and No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova lost to 18 year old and two-time junior Grand Slam winner Agnieszka Radwanska by 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. The Polish tennis prodigy's stock has been steadily rising on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. And was a tremendous longshot at the start of the US Open by the oddsmakers at Bodog.com.
With the win over Sharapova on Arthur Ashe Stadium court, Agnieszka Radwanska moves on to face either Shahar Peer or Nicole Vaidisova in the round of 16. The tennis match to decide Radwanska's opponent was in progress when Point-Spreads.com went to press.
Radwanska used her accurate ground strokes to beat sexy Russian. Maria played terrible in the second set, but came out strong in the third set. Eventuall Sharapova had twelve double faults. The weather was causing havoc with Maria as well but in the end, sloppy tennis will not get you to the US Open Finals.
The upset bv Agnieszka Radwanska sends the favor at the US Open Tennis Championship home.
