US Open 2010 Roger Federer vs Robin Soderling Betting Odds: The US Open men's quarterfinals get underway today with two great matches as Gael Monfils takes on Novak Djokovic and Robin Soderling meets Roger Federer. Soderling and Federer, which have squared off in five of the last eight majors, are scheduled to hit the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York at 7:00pm ET tonight. US Open 2010 Betting Odds at online bookmaker Bodog.com have Federer listed as a -450 moneyline favorite to advance to the semifinals.
Roger Federer advanced to his 26th consecutive major quarterfinals match earlier this week by taking out Jurgen Melzer in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Federer scored 10 aces and 41 winners in the victory, which also featured 31 unforced errors from Melzer. The win setup another meeting with Soderling, who beat Federer for the first time in his career at the quarterfinals of the 2010 French Open.
Federer still owns a 12-1 record against Soderling, though, including a 6-0, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 win in the quarterfinals of last year's US Open. Because he has been so successful against the Swede, Federer indicated that his play will determine this evening's winner.
"Like against any big server, [I will try] to read the serve, get into good baseline rallies, try to move him around, just play a solid match and have no hiccups on [my]serve," Federer said. "I've been able to do that 12 times out of 13. So it's a matter up to me now if I can do it again."
Robin Soderling, who is presently fifth in the ATP men's singles rankings, earned another shot at the Swiss master with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win over Spain's Albert Montanes. Soderling committed 40 unforced errors in the match, but made up for his miscues by slamming 15 aces and 36 winners.
Despite owning a win against Federer, Soderling is not discounting just how arduous it will be to beat him twice in a row on a Grand Slam stage.
"I know his game and he knows mine," Soderling said. "I'm pretty sure how I need to play to have a chance to win. But, you know, it's going to be extremely difficult [to beat] Roger."
Robin Soderling +300
Roger Federer -450
