The only person to slow his charge towards Pete Sampras's all-time record of 14 major titles has been world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, whose dominance on clay at the French Open has given the Swiss ace his only genuine rivalry in tennis.
But the 20 year old Djokovic reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year, losing to Rafael Nadal in both. He then beat Andy Roddick, Nadal and Federer on hard courts to win the Montreal Masters in August and followed that by reaching his first Grand Slam final in New York.
Federer is expecting to see a lot more of the young pretender in years to come. "I still consider the rivalry I have with Nadal much more serious at the moment,” stated Federer.
But asked if Djokovic was good enough to step up to the next level, Federer added: “Yes, he's been very consistent.”
