Wimbledon starts this coming Monday and the tennis betting experts at Point-Spreads.com are keeping a close eye on Andy Murray who, if fit, could spring a few surprises. British hopeful Murray is 25 to 1 odds to win Wimbledon with Sportsbook.com after the Scotsman was seeded eight for the tournament.
Murray will face Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti in the first round, provided he recovers from his wrist injury. Lapentti is no mug but his best days are now behind him. He’s now ranked 63rd in the world and reached the quarter-finals at the All England Club in 2002.
It should be noted that the British number one’s odds are likely to be cut if he gets the injury all-clear. Andy Murray has not played since suffering a wrist injury in the Hamburg Masters last month, and has yet to confirm if he will be fit to play when the third grand slam of the year starts next Monday.
But his world ranking has ensured a place among the top seeds, with defending champion Roger Federer number one seed.
The Swiss ace is still hot favourite with all the bookmakers and is available at 1/3 odds.
Based on the current world rankings, the seedings are adjusted to take into account grass-court performances in the last two years.
French Open champion and last year's beaten finalist, Rafael Nadal, is seeded second and is 5/1 odds, ahead of Artois Championships winner Andy Roddick, who is available at 11’s.
World number four Nikolay Davydenko is seeded sixth with Novak Djokovic 15/1 and Fernando Gonzalez 40/1.
