The 2016 NCAA Tournament tips off tonight with some First Four action at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio. No. 16 seeds in the East Region, Florida Gulf Coast (-6) and Fairleigh Dickinson, will face one another at 5:40pm CT while 11 seeds Vanderbilt and Wichita State (-4.5) square off in a South Region battle at 8:10pm CT.
The road to Houston should get considerably more difficult for those teams after tonight and, obviously, none of them are expected to go very far according to Bovada’s latest NCAA Bracket Picks 2016.
The favorite in the East is North Carolina, the region’s top seed, at +140 odds. West Virginia, the three seed, is a second pick, along with fourth seeded Kentucky, at +400 odds. Second seeded Xavier is fourth on the list at +800; the Musketeers are followed by No. 5 Indiana, which is drawing a +1200 line. As for Fairleigh Dickinson and Florida Gulf Coast, well, they are getting +25000 odds apiece to appear in the Final Four.
In the South, Wichita State is considered a much stronger contender, drawing +1600 odds. But it is well short of top seeded Kansas, which fell 65-78 to the Shockers in the third round of last year’s NCAA Tournament, at +150 odds to advance to Houston. The region’s other favorites are Villanova (+375), Miami (+800), Maryland (+900) and Arizona (+1500).
Second seeded Michigan State (I agree, why in the hell are the Spartans a two seed?) is the favorite in the Midwest with a +180 listing. No. 1 Virginia is second in line at +225 odds. Completing the Midwest’s top five favorites are Purdue, Utah and Iowa State at +550, +1200 and +1400 odds, respectively.
Out West Oregon and Oklahoma, seeded one and two, are the region’s favorites. The second seeded Sooners are getting +230 odds to reach the Final Four while the Ducks are lined at +350 odds.
Bovada’s top choice to win it all is Michigan State at +525 odds; Kansas and North Carolina are second and third at +550 and +650 odds, respectively.
