Sixty-eight teams has been whittled down to four and those remaining will take the makeshift court at NRG Stadium in Houston on Saturday. Only one of the tournament’s top seeds, North Carolina, managed to earn a spot in the Final Four and Roy Williams’ squad is the new favorite to win it all. According to Bovada’s latest 2016 Final Four odds, the Tar Heels are drawing a +105 line to claim the program’s sixth national title.
North Carolina cruised into the Final Four, averaging 89.3 points per game while winning by an average of 16 points per contest. Following the Tar Heels on Bovada’s list is Villanova, the two seed in the South Region, at +275 odds.
The Wildcats were also dominate in their route to Houston, crushing UNC Asheville, Iowa and Miami before scoring a five-point win over top seeded Kansas in the regional final last weekend.
Oklahoma, another two seed, was the first team to punch a ticket to the 2016 Final Four, besting the West’s No. 1 seed, Oregon, 80-68 after earning wins opposite CSU Bakersfield, VCU and Texas A&M. The Sooners have the tournament’s best player in Buddy Hield. The senior guard is averaging 25.4 points per game for the season and 29.3 points per game for the tournament.
Syracuse enters this year’s national semifinals as a Cinderella, winning the Midwest as a 10 seed. The Orange, though, are anything but a dark horse, having played in three national championship games under coach Jim Boeheim.
Early point spreads have Villanova listed as a -2 two favorite over Oklahoma in the early Saturday game. North Carolina is laying 9.5 against Syracuse in the nightcap. The Wildcats and Sooners are meeting for the second time; OU won the first meeting 78-55 in early December. Saturday will mark the third clash between conference rivals Syracuse and North Carolina. The Tar Heels won the previous two battles 84-73 and 75-70.
