North Carolina and Villanova will play for all the marbles tonight as they cap off the NCAA Tournament at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. The 2016 NCAA Basketball National Championship is set to tip off at 8:19pm CT; coverage of the game will be provided by TBS. Bovada’s latest college basketball point spreads release has North Carolina, the one seed from the East, listed as a -3 favorite in this evening’s tournament finale.
There is little doubt who the best two teams in the 2016 NCAA Tournament are and, unlike some years, they will actually meet for the championship. North Carolina breezed through the East Region shellacking every opponent, including a tough Indiana team, and they it did the same in Saturday’s national semifinal.
The Tar Heels defeated conference rival Syracuse for the third time this season, taking out the Orange 88-63. The victory marked the third time during UNC’s run to the championship that it scored 83 or more points while holding its opposition to 67 or fewer.
The ante gets upped for the Heels tonight, though, as Villanova is, without question, the best team they will have faced thus far.
The Wildcats traveled a more difficult path to Houston, but they, nonetheless, experienced similar results to the Tar Heels. Villanova knocked off UNC Asheville, Iowa, Miami and top seed Kansas by an average of 19.3 points per game before utterly destroying Oklahoma 95-51 on Saturday.
Confidence should, obviously, be high on both sides, but the Wildcats really have to like their chances, in spite of their underdog status, after defeating a three seed, a one seed and a two seed with ease. And I would imagine bettors will be fond of them as well.
