Paris Hilton sentence too HarshParis Hilton is being punished for being Paris Hilton. After an extensive survey of jail records, it has become quite obvious that Paris is serving a much longer sentence than inmates who were convicted of similar offenses.

The Los Angeles Times analyzed 2 million jail releases and found 1,500 cases similar, involving defendants who were arrested for DUI and later sentenced to jail after a probation violation or driving without a license.

Last week, Sheriff Lee Baca released Hilton from the Lynwood facility after only serving 5 days of her 23-day sentence. If she had left the prison for good on June 7th, her time served would be similar to 60% of inmates in the same situation.

After Hilton’s early released and reassignment to house arrest, Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered her back to jail to complete the remainder of her 23-day sentence. If Paris serves the full 23 days, she will serve more time than 80% of people in similar situations.

"Twenty-three days would be considerably more than the average person given her sentence would actually serve," said Stan Goldman, professor of criminal law and procedure at Loyola Law School.

Sheriff Lee Baca has been accused of giving the heiress special treatment. "The only special treatment she got, she got more time in jail," Baca said. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors launched an investigation into whether Hilton was given special treatment. They have asked the Sheriff to make a public report providing “the reasons for the premature release of Paris Hilton from the Sheriff's Century Regional Detention Facility.”

Paris’ younger sister Nicky wants to clear up the misconception that Paris is not in jail for DUI. In fact, she is in jail for driving on a suspended license. TMZ is reporting the L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo’s wife received a $186 fine for a traffic ticket she received while driving on a suspended license. However, she was never busted for the license. Interesting.

It’s nice to know if Paris Hilton does serve the full 23 days, she will have done about the same amount of time as 4,000 inmates who have been charged with assaults 1,800 charged with burglary, another 2,600 charged with domestic violence and nearly 11,000 charged with drug violations.

That’s not hot!
