Timberlake and Diaz call it Quits, Johansson Waiting in Wings

After three-and-a-half years together, Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz call it quits. Tabloids and Gossip Blogs are already linking the Alpha Dog to none other than super sexy actress Scarlet Johansson. Popular online betting website BetUS.com has already posted 5 to 1 odds that Timberlake and Johansson will be engaged this year.  That might be jumping the gun a bit though.

The super couple confirmed their relationship was over in a joint statement made Thursday:
 
"It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we spent together, we feel compelled to do so now, in the light of recent speculation and inaccurate stories that are being reported by the media…We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship and have done so mutually and as friends with continued love and respect for each other."  
 
Prior to the statement, rumors about the split were soaring early this week.  Timberlake kicked off his FutureSex/LoveSounds tour and Diaz was nowhere to be found.  According to People Magazine, Timberlake made a comment to the crowd saying, “Sometimes love isn’t easy.”

The media seems to think the couple split during the holidays just after the stars performance on SNL. Timberlake spent time with his family in Tennessee while Diaz was in Colorado with hers.  The tabloids originally linked him to Veronica Finn, his ex-girlfriend (prior to Britney) whom he spent time with during Christmas.  Kate Hudson was also in the mix, probably because the two spent time together during New Year’s Eve.  And last, the person getting all the recent attention, Scarlet Johansson.  The actress will appear in Timberlake next video for his hit single, “What Goes Around…/…Comes Around.”   
 
It seems Timberlake and Johansson were fond of each other for a while.  On the contrary, Diaz does not like Johansson based on previous circumstances.  After dating Jared Leto for four years, Diaz dumped him for Timberlake.  Johansson began dating Leto immediately and Diaz was not happy about it.  She became more bitter after Justin cast her for his new video.  A friend of Timberlake told US Weekly, "(Diaz) could not believe he went behind her back to put (Johansson) in the video.  Cameron was very jealous of Scarlett."
 
Timberlake and Johansson have been spending time together but have not confirmed anything regarding their relationship.  Johansson was present at his “Alpha Dog” premier Wednesday night, but she did not come as his date.   However, the two seemed to be around each other all night.
