“F****** Jew. Are you a Jew? You Mother F*****!” are some of the ignorant remarks made by Mel Gibson to his arresting officer during a traffic stop for drunk driving back in July. According to the arresting officer, LA County Sheriff’s Deputy James Mee, Gibson was quite intoxicated. He went on a tirade expressing feelings about religion, made threats toward Officer Mee and even tried to escape. His blood alcohol level was .12 percent. The legal limit in California is .08 percent.
Mee had actually taped the entire arrest from when Gibson was first pulled over until he was placed in the car. LA County’s Spokesman Sgt. John Hocking said in a statement that he couldn’t confirm the reports and detectives would immediately begin investigations. In the days to follow, it was found that on several of Gibson drinking binges, he was given preferential treatment because of his “celebrity status”. It was said that this most recent situation was even doctored to keep the true story under wraps.
On August 17th Mel Gibson pleaded no contest to his charge of drunk driving in order to cut a deal for 3 years probation, pay a fine, and attend alcohol rehabilitation classes. His court date was moved up an entire month in order to avoid a media frenzy however, he still faces consequences from the anti-semitic tirade that occurred during his arrest. His second misdemeanor, driving with an open container of alcohol, was dismissed.
When asked if the tapes and reports would be released, authorities said that they are part of an investigation and exempt from public record. Gibson was ordered to self help meetings 5 days a week for 4 ½ months and 3 meetings per week for another 7 ½ months. He was also ordered to a 3 month alcohol education and counseling program for first offenders. His fines total $1608 and his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days. He is ordered to reappear in court for a progress report in January 2007.
It is very likely that he will break at least one of his conditions by December 31, 2006. The majority of the public believes that he isn’t going to be able to hold up his end of the agreement because he has gotten away with it for so long. After all, he is a celebrity!
Bet on Mel Gibson to fall off the wagon at Bodog. If you think Gibson will fall off the wagon, Bodog.com is paying $300 bucks for every $100 dollars wagered. If you think he will stay clean and has learned his lesson, you have to bet $500 bucks to win $100.
