Early Super Bowl Bets

by Matt Foust on Friday, January 16th, 2009

The Super Bowl is just a couple of weeks away, but most online bookmakers already have odds posted on which conference will be victorious in the big game. Sportsbook.com, in their early Super Bowl bets, is favoring the AFC -3 against the spread to bring home the Lombardi Trophy, despite the NFC venue (Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida).Early Super Bowl Bets

There are just four teams remaining in the championship chase, and many people feel that the AFC's Pittsburgh Steelers are the strongest team still playing. The Steelers went 12-4 this season and captured their second consecutive AFC North crown behind the strength of the league's top ranked defense. They soundly defeated San Diego 35-24 in last weekend's divisional playoff at Heinz Field to advance to the AFC Championship Game.

Mike Tomlin's club will have to get by division rival Baltimore for a third time this year if they are to have a shot at winning Super Bowl XLIII.

Pittsburgh went 2-2 against NFC opposition, losing to the Eagles on the road and the Giants at home, while beating the Cowboys in the Steel City and topping the Redskins at FedEX Field. Sportsbook.com currently has the Steelers listed at +150 money line odds to the Super Bowl.

The Eagles are viewed as the favorite to win the NFC Championship, despite the fact that the Cardinals are the host team.  Arizona has won three games in row and is 7-2 at home this year, counting their Wild Card victory over the Falcons; however, Philadelphia has won six of their last seven games and their third ranked scoring defense has limited foes to an average of just 10.8 points per game in their last six contests (includes their two playoff victories).

Philly was 2-1-1 against the AFC in the regular season and they beat their NFC Championship competitor 48-20 at Lincoln Financial Field in late November. Their current Sportsbook.com odds to win the Super Bowl are listed at +175 on the money line.

Sportsbook.com's Early Super Bowl Bets:

AFC -3 (-110), Over 43.5 (-110)

NFC +3 (-110), Under 43.5 (-110)

With Super Bowl XLIII just a few weeks away, there is no better time to visit Sportsbook.com and get down on your favorite to win the Lombardi Trophy.
