Bet Hines Ward OVER 5 Receptions in Super Bowl XLIII

by Thomas Jensen on Friday, January 30th, 2009

Super Bowl XLIII is right around the corner and bettors all across the Globe have begun placing their bets on their favorite team and making several increasingly popular prop bets. This year at Sportsbook.com there are over 300 Super Bowl prop bets available and in this article we will discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers offense and wide receiver Hines Ward receiving over 65.5 total yards.

The Hines Ward Super Bowl prop bets can be tricky since he is recovering from a sprained right medial collateral ligament. He injured his knee in the Steelers' AFC Championship Game win over the Ravens. On Thursday, Ward took part in his first full-scale practice for their Super Bowl match-up this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. "I'm not gonna go out there and go full-tilt like it's a game," he said. There is an element of the unknown that Ward is coping with. "I've never really had to deal with this specific injury," said Ward, who injured his shoulder in practice before Super Bowl XL, a game that earned him MVP honors. He also went on to say, "I feel good. It's getting better and better each day."

When asked about Hines Ward covering the over on 65.5 yards, the Stat Fox representatives Steve Makinen and Doug Upstone went head to head:  “OVER,” stated Steve. “Assuming Ward is at full strength, he is Pittsburgh’s biggest playmaker. He surpassed 65.5 yards receiving eight times in Pittsburgh’s 18 games and will be counted on more than usual here.”  “UNDER,” stated Steve. “Not certain if Ward’s injured knee will be 100%. If healthy no problem, but I see more underneath catches.”

The other Hines Ward Super Bowl prop bet posted at Sportsbook.com is the number of total receptions. Under 5 is the favorite at -135 and with great value Over 5 at +105. The Stat Fox analysts agreed for a change; “Over,” stated Doug, “Ward comes out of sick bay as he makes six catches.” “Over,” stated Steve, “A big time OVER if Ward is healthy. The comfort level that Roethlisberger has with Ward is unmatched on the Pittsburgh roster and he will be thrown to a lot.”
